Emma Louise Ashford, an American musician and composer, born at Newark, Del., studied church music abroad, married John Ashford of Vanderbilt University, Tenn., in 1867.

Mrs. Ashford was organist and choir director in Nashville churches many years, editor of The Organist, and has won many prizes in various international song and anthem contests. She has written over three hundred anthems, about seventy-five sacred songs, duets and cantatas, and many compositions for organ and piano.
