Rachel Ruysch, a Dutch flower and fruit painter, born in Amsterdam.

She married the portrait painter, Julian Pool in 1685, was later received into the Guild a the Hague, and became court painter to the Elector in Düsseldorf.

Her reputation as a flower painter was second only to that of Jan van Huyson. She excelled in painting rare exotic flowers and insects, and her admirable work is represented in some of the leading galleries of Europe, as well as in the Metropolitan Museum, New York.
