Annie Jump Cannon, an American astronomer, born at Dover, Del. Educated at Wellesley College, she became an assistant in Harvard College Observatory in 1897 and curator of astronomical photographs in 1911. Besides completing a bibliography of variable stars, she discovered several new stars, and has written a number of important books on astronomy and scientific subjects.
