Ellen Glasgow, an American novelist, born at Richmond, Va.

Her books include: The Descendant, The Battle-Ground, The Deliverance, The Wheel of Life, and Virginia.

Miss Glasgow displays an interesting talent in her studies of Southern scenes and people, and in her pictures of the change in the South from the old order to the new.

In her latest, and perhaps her first novel, One Man in His Time, she displays a vivid power of characterization, a beauty of style, and a clear understanding of problems in American life.
