Eliza Greatorex
American Artist
1820 – 1897 A.D.
Eliza Greatorex, an American artist, born in Ireland. She came to New York in 1840 and in 1849 married Henry W. Greatorex, the organist and composer.
After studying in New York and Paris she produced many landscape paintings, but later devoted herself to etching and pen-and-ink work, by which she is chiefly remembered.
In 1869 she made a series of sketches of historic buildings and scenes in and around New York.
Her publications include: The Homes of Oberammergau, Summer Etchings in Colorado, and Old New York from the Battery to Bloomingdale.
