Lady Augusta Gregory
Irish Dramatist
1852 – 1932 A.D.
Lady Augusta Gregory, an Irish dramatist. Deeply interested in the movement known as the Irish Literary Revival, she was a constant friend of its leader, William Butler Yeats, who owed much to her help and encouragement. She devoted herself especially to the Irish Literary Theatre in Dublin, and accompanied the Irish Players when they visited America in 1911-1912.
Besides her substantial literary achievements in her renderings of the Irish sagas, Lady Gregory has written many excellent short plays, illustrative of Irish life and legend.
