Mrs. Henry Wood, an English novelist, born in Worcester. She began her literary career by contributing to magazines, and excelled her contemporaries in the ingenuity of her plots.

Her first great success was East Lynne, in 1861, which was followed by about forty long novels and tales.

Mrs. Wood’s widely circulated books display constructive skill, keen character drawing, and descriptive power.

Her East Lynne had an enormous success as a book and a drama, and is still occasionally revived.
